About Us
Desert Sounds A Cappella+, formerly known as Desert Sounds Harmony Chorus, has been a long standing women’s chorus in Kamloops, British Columbia. For many years now we have been singing our fun and unique style of 4-part, a cappella music. The chords have a special ring that sound like nothing else. It gives you chills, in a good way!
Affiliated with Sweet Adelines International we have access to some of the world’s best vocal coaches and music arrangers. We love to put together fun and theatrical performances. Our two level chorus includes both a casual and a performance group so you can learn to sing and find the right place for your skill and comfort level.
Our members are from all walks of life! We are an inclusive and friendly group of ladies! If you are at least 16 yrs old and want to learn to sing, we welcome you to come out and see what we sound like and maybe even give it a try? We think you’ll like it! We sure do!

How does membership work?
Casual Members
A great starting point, or even a returning member’s spot. Membership at this level allows for learning vocal skills, physical movement and a less extensive choral repertoire. This group rehearses for approximately 90 minutes per week at a low pressure pace. Our Casual Members are not required to be members of Sweet Adelines International and are not required to audition. They participate along with our Performance Members at the beginning of our full rehearsals. No performance requirements, just learning, singing and enjoying the camaraderie of our group.
Membership dues are $25/ month Sept - June
Performance Members
Our performance members begin our rehearsals right along with the casual members. We work on our vocal warm ups, physical warm ups and vocal skill development together. The Performance Members are members of Sweet Adelines International (SAI) and an audition is required to ensure you are able to hold your part against others in our harmonies. If you are interested in this more advanced level we do our best to prepare you for and support you through the audition process. New Members are encouraged to participate in at least 4 rehearsals before auditioning for this level. This group is available for hire in our community and performs at a variety of locations, events and competitions.
Membership fees are $35/month Jan - Dec
A one time start up registration fee with SAI is required your first year, after that annual fees are included in the monthly dues.

Quartets
Once you catch the harmony bug you may even want to join a quartet. This is a group of 4 women who each sing different harmony parts. Our organization has an annual convention and competition where quartets as well as choruses compete and receive feedback from an international judging panel.
